COMPLETE DENTURES: Are custom made to fit your anatomy and personal aesthetics. There are different materials that teeth and “gums” can be made of, porcelain, composites, and acrylics. The prosthodontist will design your smile and bite — you will try-in a wax set-up so you can be part of designing your smile.
IMMEDIATE DENTURES: Can be made (without the benefit of a wax set-up try in) ahead of time, so on the day you have your last “bad teeth” extracted, you will leave the office with your immediate denture in place, so you never have to go without teeth. After a few months, when the gums are fully healed, the dentures can either be relined to fit perfectly, or new conventional devices can be made with a wax set-up try-in, allowing us to customize your smile and bite.
UPPER vs. LOWER DENTURES: Upper dentures can be made to have suction. Most people can wear them successfully. A small percentage of people have a very strong gag reflex which does not allow them to wear a full upper denture which covers the palate. Lower dentures are less stable and retentive than upper dentures. More people have problems wearing lower dentures successfully.
IMPLANTS and DENTURES: A few strategically placed implants with snaps fabricated into the denture can help retain a problem denture, ridding you fro having to use denture paste, and allowing you to chew better and feel confident.
REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES: usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases. Depending on your needs, your dentist will design a partial denture for you. A partial denture may have a metal framework and clasps that connect to your teeth, or they can have other connectors that are more natural looking. In some cases, a removable partial denture is made to attach to your natural teeth with devices called precision attachments. Precision attachments are generally more esthetic than clasps. Dr. Deegan can make beautiful dentures for you, and ensure their comfort and fit.
