The TMJ (tempromandibular joint): So many people suffer from headaches so severe they seek out medical treatment. Oftentimes these headaches even affect the quality of daily life! A large contributor to these headaches is a condition called TMJ, or Temporomandibular Joint disorder, and more than half of Americans suffer from it.
TMJ refers to a group of related disorders associated with the temporomandibular joint, surrounding muscles, and tendons. The main joint connecting the upper jaw to the lower jaw, its strength and importance is not to be underestimated. When teeth don’t fit properly together, or other abnormal strain is applied to the jaw, a wide range of TMJ issues can develop. These can include discomfort, muscle strain, popping and clicking of the jaw, and even frequent headaches.
